Boozy Dreamsicles

June 15, 2012
Last week during Joy and Tracy’s podcast they talked about summer bucket lists. At the time, I didn’t really have a bucket list…. But I started thinking about one.
So, here it is my summer bucket list!
    1. Spend more time outside. I will not be a Casper for another summer! Whether it is walking or just lounging on my porch with a good book. Which leads me to my next item.
    2. Right now I am rereading the Great Gatsby. I never really liked it in high school and now that the movie with Leo is coming out, I want to give it another shot. This got me thinking about other classics I either never really liked or never read. So, I want to read Slaughterhouse Five, The Catcher in the Rye, and The Color Purple.
    3. Hang out in real life with my blogging buddy, Stephie. Made a date to hang out with her and Ryan and am really looking forward to checking that one off the list!
    4. Make more friendship bracelets and then do a blog tutorial about it.
5. Make boozy popsicles. I have been formulating this colossal recipe idea in my head for some time and I think that, thanks to Naked Jay, I finally have the perfect ingredient to complete this recipe.
I checked number five off the list right quick when I tasted this smooth whip cream vodka. Mix it with Greek yogurt and fresh orange, then freeze it in popsicle molds and TA DA! Boozy popsicles checked off the bucket list. Make them early in the summer and make them often!
Ingredients (Makes 4 Popsicles)
1 Orange, segmented and chopped
2 Tablespoons Fresh-Squeezed Orange Juice
½ Cup Sugar
3 Tablespoons Naked Jay Whip Cream Vodka
1 Cup Non-Fat Plain Greek Yogurt
Remove the peel from a large Naval orange. Cut between each membrane to remove the orange segments. Roughly chop the orange segments.
Heat the chopped orange segments, orange juice, and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat until the sugar melts. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Add the cooled orange and sugar liquid along with the whip cream vodka and Greek yogurt to a blender. Puree until the mixture starts to turn a pale orange.
Pour into popsicle molds and freeze for at least four hours, but overnight is best. Soak the molds in warm water to loosen the pops so you will be able to remove them.
Enjoy the boozy goodness all summer long!
All of the opinions in this post are solely my own. I was not paid by Naked Jay Vodka. I was generously given some of their products to taste test.

[…] Yep, summer is over. I know. But, I couldn’t let my summer come to a close without informing all of you (because I know you were soooooo curious) if I actually completed my summer bucket list. […]

I highly recommend trying to read “Slaughterhouse Five” again! It’s absolutely incredible. If you just can’t get into it though (understandably enough), try reading Vonnegut’s “Cat’s Cradle”. I can’t decide which I like more, but I enjoyed “Slaughterhouse Five” so much that I have the most famous phrase “so it goes” from the book tattooed on my wrist. Funnily enough, I have The Great Gatsby in my purse right now and am excited to start it! Also super excited to make these boozy popsicles this summer!!

I also hated Gatsby in high school! That damned green light…ugh! Let me know if it improves for you, *maybe* I will give it another shot, too.

(We’re so excited for our cookout date! Hooray!)

I am about halfway through Gatsby and I am still not loving it. I will keep you posted though.

Probably my favorite assinged novel from high school was The Catcher in the Rye. I’d recommend that one. In terms of the dessert, it looks delicious, but I have a 4-year-old daughter. Any substitutions for the vodka?

Actually, I made a batch without the vodka as well and they were just as dreamy!

Love your summer bucket list! and maybe once baby #2 arrives I will have to give these treats a try! 😉 Also looking forward to trying your cobbler muffins! BTW…I would recommend a different Salinger book if you’ve never read him before – Catcher in the Rye is his “classic” but it is my least favorite.
