Simple Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing

August 23, 2012
I love stinky cheese! Give me that funk, that sweet, that nasty, that gushi stuff! (Name that song.)
Even though Jay-Z was not rapping about ol’ blue, I still feel his sentiments are appropriate. You’re my boy blue!
Ok, that is enough with the pop culture refrences that my mom doesn’t understand.
But for real, I have always been a fan of blue cheese ever since I was a small child. I guess I’m weird like that. My parents thought it was important for us to have a side salad with every meal. When we were old enough, we got to choose which dressing we wanted on our personal salads.
My dad and I were the only two in the family that liked blue cheese dressing. Finding a nugget of blue in our Hidden Valley dressing was like finding buried treasure.
Nowadays, I am proud to say, I do not own one bottle of store bought dressing. Why not? Because it is so so so easy to make your own. Trust me, you will save money and sodium intake in the long run if you just make your own.
Homemade blue cheese dressing in about five minutes. Ready, set, go!
Ingredients (Makes about a cup)
½ Cup Blue Cheese Crumbles
½ Cup Buttermilk
1 Tablespoon Sour Cream
1 Tablespoon Mayonnaise
½ Teaspoon Salt
½ Teaspoon Pepper
Measure out all the above ingredients and add them to a food processor. Puree for about thirty seconds if you like a chunkier dressing, longer if you like it smoother. Pour into an air-tight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Use as a dipping sauce for buffalo chicken or over a simple salad for a healthier option.
Shortest blog post ever!  Told you it would be easy!

Ok, I would like this because I like blue cheese dressing, but the chunks of cheese are sometimes too much tang. Smooth and creamy would be my style!

I, too, absolutely LOVE blue cheese dressing! I also loved this post, because my Mom (bless her soul) made BC dressing very similarly to Stefanie’s recipe (she added a dash of Worcestershire sauce) – but without a food processer! The blue cheese chunks were delectible….
Mass-produced dressings don’t hold a candle to homemade!!
