Bacon & Sage Roasted Peanuts

September 6, 2012
There are certain things you have to do in a marriage, especially when you are married to a guy’s guy!
Before any of you who know Mike say anything, yes, fine, he also happens to be well-versed in most reality TV shows and Sex and the City. Those are just things that a husband has to do when they are married to a kind-of-girly-girl-tv-addict. Those guidelines are for another time.
Now, back to dealing with a dude’s dude. You can’t serve salads more than once a week. Always have some kind of carb or potato to go with a meat entrée.
Sweatpants are allowed at the dinner table, but most often you will eat at the coffee table.
This is a tough one. You will have to allow some kind of sports to be on your television for at least an hour. Every. Single. Day. For the rest of your life.
If he has some other dudes over (and you like to cook) you should consider supplying at least one manly snack. Now, that is clearly dependent upon whether or not this was a well-planned out event or a sneak attack hang out tactic that your man pulled on you.
But, if you do make a snack, I highly suggest anything with bacon! For example, these bacon and sage roasted peanuts. Maybe throw in a bag of chips to seem caj. Also, don’t forget napkins. It’s unlikely that guys will use them, but at least pray that they do.
PS In case that freaked all you non-married ladies out, fear not. When in doubt, go to anything Oprah related. Everybody loves Oprah. She is like your favorite Auntie… Who just so happens to be able to gift you a car or iPad whenever she feels like it!
Ingredients (Serves 6-8)
2 Strips Center-Cut Bacon
10 Sage Leaves
3 Cups Unsalted Peanuts
Dash of Salt and Pepper
Heat in a large skillet over medium/high heat for a minute or two. Add the bacon to the hot skillet and cook until crisp, about five minutes. Remove the bacon and set on a paper towel to drain. Reduce the heat to medium.
Add the sage leaves five at a time. Cook the sage leaves until they turn crisp, about two to three minutes. Place the sage leaves on a paper towel to drain.
Drain the bacon grease into a separate heat-proof bowl. Turn the heat to medium/low. Add one tablespoon of the bacon grease back to the pan.
Add the peanuts to the pan and roast them for about six minutes until they turn golden brown. Turn the heat off and remove the pan from the burner. Crumble the sage leaves and bacon into the peanuts. Add a dash of salt and pepper to the peanut mixture, mix to distribute.
Add the entire mixture into a medium snack bowl. The peanuts will last for three days at room temperature in an air-tight container.

I can’t say I’m the most manly of men, so I’m not sure how valuable my opinion is here, but yum!

I knew there was a reason I didn’t date super crazy dude’s dude kind of guys…all that sports watching. GROSS.

True story, one time I fell asleep AT A SUPER BOWL PARTY. I had clearly eaten myself into a lovely little food coma and the boring game wasn’t helping……..

I’ll take the sports foods (ie, these peanuts), but leave the actual sports. Gimme some Bachelor Pad!

Three days? I doubt these will last for three hours in my house. They sound delicious! Yes, terrible for you, but some days, you just gotta have bacon.

True, not the healthiest snack. All things in moderation, right?
