Homemade Limeade

July 20, 2012
Honestly, this post should be titled Homemade Margarita Mix, because if you just sit around drinking plain limeade, I kind of think you’re weird. I still like you and all, but it is just a bit baffling to me.
On the other hand, I don’t blame you for not wanting to dance with the evil temptress named Tequila.
I am going to attempt to tell you some tequila tidbits without coming off sounding like, number one, an alcoholic, and number two, a lunatic. I have faith that most of you will not judge me and share in my trepidation when it comes to this liquor.
After a night of tequila drinking…
-I have taken part in many impromptu dance parties.
-I learned way too many things about my parents.
– I caught the “tequila flu.” (I hope you know what I mean by that. Cough hangover of a lifetime cough.)
-I decided to quit my job. Side note: That definitely worked out for the best.
-I have walked home barefoot. (That is an early twenties tequila tidbit by the way.)
I am going to stop right there, while I still have my dignity (note: this advice can come in handy when drinking tequila).
Ingredients (Serves 8 – 10)
2 Cups Granulated Sugar
1 Cup Water
4 Teaspoons Lime Zest
2 Cups Lime Juice (I painstakingly squeezed 12 limes to get that much juice, but that might vary depending on the juiciness of each lime.)
10 Cups Cold Water
Bring the cup of water to a simmer in a small saucepan. Add the sugar and lime zest and stir until all the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and set off to the side to cool.
Juice all of your limes. This takes time and elbow grease, so plan accordingly if you are making this for a party.
In a large pitcher or beverage dispenser, combine the simple syrup with the zest in it, lime juice, and cold water. Add some ice cubes and lime slices if you are serving right away. Feel free to serve this warm with ice and lime slices on the side.

Weezer photobombed me.
If you are making this ahead of time, keep refrigerated until ready to serve. Limeade should last up to two weeks under refrigeration.
Good enough to drink without the tequila, I say.  And maybe I should. Too many unfortunate and embarrassing moments are popping into my head from past nights.

Un huh. I got my own set of drunk stories when I was attending college. I think we all do, so there’s no shame. I like that this could be used as a cocktail or use a virgin refresher for the kiddies at summer barbecues.

    Hilarious post! And true!
Limeade is also wonderful with gin or vodka- so, you could avoid the “flu”
