BBQ Kimchi French Bread Pizza

BBQ kimchi French bread pizza is a spicy, new twist on pizza. A loaf of French bread with a spicy Gochujang BBQ sauce, a mix of cheeses, and your favorite kimchi. Bake until melty and golden.

You guys know, I love my Friday pizza night.

I am always looking for new pizzas, frozen and otherwise.

I love testing out new toppings and topping combinations.

That is how I came up with this French bread pizza idea.

Gochujang is a red chili paste. It is sweet, savory, and spicy.

It is made from gochu-garu, glutinois rice, meju powder, yeotgireum, and salt.

Gochujang is traditionally used in Korean cooking.

I mixed the gochujang with my favorite smoky BBQ sauce and a few other ingredients to amp up the flavor.

To make the BBQ sauce for the pizza, you will need:

  • Your favorite BBQ sauce
  • Gochujang chili sauce
  • Soy sauce
  • White wine or rice wine vinegar
  • Honey

Mix all that deliciousness together.

Cut the French bread loaf in half, scoop out a little bit of the bread to create a well in the loaves, and then spread that sauce all over the bread.

I like to reserve a little bit of the sauce to drizzle over the cheese.

The cheese I like to use for this BBQ kimchi French bread pizza are some colbyjack and some pepperjack.

Be warned! There is a fair amount of spice in this recipe.

You can keep the heat down by using less Gochujang and leaving out the pepperjack and opting for a milder cheese like cheddar.

Another way to tone down the heat depends on the kimchi you choose.

I love using kimchi in recipes as you already know.

To die for!

It slightly crisps up as the pizza bakes and the flavor gets absorbed into the bread and the cheese.

This is a meatless pizza but, I could totally see some pepperoni working too.

BBQ Kimchi French Bread Pizza

Yield: 1 Pizza, 8 pieces
Prep Time: 7 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 22 minutes

A spicy Gochujang BBQ sauce French bread pizza topped with kimchi, pepper jack, and colby jack cheeses.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup BBQ Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Gochujang Chili Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1/2 tsp White Wine Vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp Honey
  • 3/4- 1 Cup KImchi
  • 4oz Pepper Jack Cheese, shredded
  • 4oz Colby Jack Cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 French Bread Loaf, cut in half length-wise

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. Combine the BBQ sauce, Gochujang, soy sauce, vinegar, and honey in a small mixing bowl. Whisk to combine.
  3. Scoop out a little well in each half of the French bread loaf. Use a spoon to spread the sauce on each half of the bread. Reserve a little bit of the sauce for the topping of the cheese.
  4. Top the bread with pieces of kimchi and then cover with equal amounts of the cheeses. Add more kimchi on top of the cheese and the drizzle of the BBQ sauce.
  5. Bake the bread in the oven for 12-15 minutes until melty and golden on top.
  6. Let slightly cool and the cut each loaf into 4 pieces.

Notes

Write additional notesIf you want a milder pizza, use less Gochujang and use cheddar instead of pepper jack cheese.
