May 2, 2019

Skinny low carb margarita is for those Cinco de Mayo celebrations and summer fiestas when you definitely plan on having more than one cocktail. A super simple way to watch those calories when you’re drinking at home.

Alright, alright. Before I get flooded with health and wellness bloggers, lemme say one thing: I am not a dietician, a health blogger, or anywhere close to one. I did my research and found calorie counts and carb totals on my own. My numbers may be different than yours.

I really just wanted to challenge myself and take a stab at doing an easy at home version of the classic Bethenny Skinnygirl Margarita. I do love me my New York Housewives.

My friend Ashleigh sent me some InBooze infusion kits for margaritas and Bloody Mary’s for my birthday. That’s when I started this personal challenge of developing an easy, at home, skinny low carb margarita.

Traditional margarita mixes have so much sugar in them. You don’t need that much sugar to make a tasty drink! Even more so if you infuse your tequila ahead of time with the InBooze kit.

The alcohol becomes lime and orange flavored and gets even smoother the longer you let the tequila infuse. You don’t gain any carbs because there is no juice or additives for all you carb counting folks out there.

After three trial runs, I finally got the recipe down! One cocktail is 91 calories and 7.6 net carbs.

I used 1 tsp agave nectar as a sweetener. You could also use stevia if you want even fewer carbs and are all about that Keto life.

The reason I like the skinny low carb margarita is because I always plan on having more than one and would rather spend calories where they count, like on pizza or tacos.

Let’s just say you care not about low carb, you just want a good margarita. Head over to ¡Hola! Jalapeño to see the rest of the incredible Margarita Week concoctions. PS There are even margarita themed foods!

Skinny Low Carb Margarita

Yield: 1 Drink
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Infusing Time: 1 day
Total Time: 1 day 5 minutes

A skinny low carb margarita made using infused tequila, a small amount of sweetener, and a little lime juice.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE TEQUILA:
  • 1 InBooze Margarita Infusion Kit
  • 2 Cups Tequila
  • FOR 1 SKINNY MARGARITA:
  • 1oz Infused Tequila
  • 6oz Water
  • 1 tsp Agave or Stevia
  • 2tbsp Fresh Lime Juice

Instructions

  1. The day before you plan on serving the margaritas, add the InBooze infusion bag to a mason jar filled with 2 cups of tequila. Place the tequila in the fridge and allow 24 hours to infuse.
  2. To make a cocktail, add water and sweetener (agave nectar or stevia) to a highball glass. Mix until the sweetener is completely dissolved.
  3. Add infused tequila and lime juice. Stir to combine. Top off with ice.

Notes

  • If you do not have an InBooze kit handy, add a few dehydrated lime slices and dehydrated orange slices to the tequila instead.
  • Salted or tajin coated rim will change the calorie/carb count of this drink.
