Late Night Munchie Doughnuts

Late Night Munchie Doughnuts (chocolate cake doughnuts with salted caramel, pretzels, and chips) - Sarcastic Cooking

Today, let’s talk about something that is near and dear to everybody’s hearts; late night food. Or, drunk food, if you wanna call it that too. I know that for me, I don’t need to be drunk to be craving or even needing some late night snacks. Lately if I stay up past ten watching a movie, I will be in need of a snack to help keep me awake for the rest of the movie. Yep, mom, I am turning into you!

Some people like some late night Mexican food. I can’t do spicy before I hit the hay. Mike is all about late night tacos. There is a certain taco joint around here that stays open 24 hours a day that caters to the late night munchie crowd. You better believe that Mike and all his buddies hit that place up on the reg during the summer. I remember him taking me there when I first came to see his hometown in college too. Ah, summer! Can you feel it? It is close. Pretty soon schools will be out of session and the creepy bells of the ice cream truck will echo along the streets of the neighborhood. Yeah, I said creepy. There is something eerie and haunting about that chimey song.

Making friends as an adult is hard work. Mike and I have these neighbors, two houses down. They have three sons and are most likely in their mid to late thirties. He is a Chicago cop and the wife is a nurse. We really like them and want to eventually get to the point of hanging out and drinking beers with them once all our kids are in bed. Plus, you can always use a friend who is a cop because you never know. Anyway, we have made this our summer goal. Not creepy at all, right? [Read more…]

Chocolate Cookie Dough Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Sandwiches

Chocolate Cookie Dough Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Sandwiches | Sarcastic Cooking

Oh man. Summer is in full swing here in my casa. Baby pool, check! SPF 50 for my pale body, check! Beers that require fruit, check! Watermelon, check! Ice cream sandwiches, check!

Summer as a child was full of Push Pops, Fudgsicles, and ice cream sandwiches. It was also full of staying out in the yard until the sun set. We promised my parents we would be quiet so we could stay out later and catch fireflies. Skinned knees, asphalt scratches, grass stains, sticky fingers, and hair plastered to your forehead by sweat. All those things mean summer as a kid to me! [Read more…]
