By the time you are reading this we will have landed and be back to reality after our week long Disney World adventure. I cannot call Disney a vacation. Vacation makes it seem relaxing. Anytime you travel with kids, it’s like playing a game of chess. There are so many moving pieces and personalities to keep track of…it’s exhausting!

There is nothing relaxing about Disney with Mike’s family. Disney to them is a sport. In order to enjoy Disney and get the most out of it, they plan, and re-plan, and spreadsheet. We make all kids (ages 2-9) ride in strollers to make it to all the fast passes and attractions as quickly as possible.

The kids have a blast and so do the adults.

You also lose weight on vacation from all the walking, which is nice. A con, however? My feet never hurt as bad as they do during and after Disney.

In order to come back to summer life and relax after my family vacation, I came up with the perfect deck or pool sitting cocktail: easy strawberry grapefruit frosé. I tinkered with this recipe a few times before we left just to get it down. I wanted that perfect slush consistency. Practice makes perfect, right?

Even Mike got in on the taste testing. He is not a rosé fan, but he liked these guys.

I also may or may not have killed my blender while making these. She had a good run, 8 years. She died doing what she loved. RIP. Problems for future Stefanie, amiright?

The trick to getting that restaurant quality slush at home is to partially freeze the rosé before you blend it. It has a low alcohol content so it freezes easily. You also might want to pick a darker rose if you are wanting a more deep pink after blending.

These cocktails are the perfect way to ease back into reality, post vacation. I’ll be enjoying them along with a new blender once I unpack and do all the laundry. Cheers!

Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1, 750mL bottle rosé (darker the better to maintain some color after blending)
  • 3-4 cups of ice
  • 1/2 cup strawberry grapefruit simple syrup
  • SIMPLE SYRUP
  • 1/4 cup grapefruit juice
  • 1/2 cup water3/4 cup sugar3 frozen stawberries

Instructions

  1. Add the rose to several quart or gallon sized freezer safe plastic food storage bags. seal and freeze for at least 25 minutes before blending.
  2. In a small sauce pan, heat the grapefruit juice, water, sugar, and frozen strawberries over medium/high heat until the sugar dissolves. Bring to a simmer. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. While the simple syrup simmers, mash the strawberries with a wooden spoon as they thaw and cook.
  4. After 5 minutes, remove from heat. Strain the simple syrup into a heatproof bowl and store in the fridge for at least 10 minutes to chill. You don't want to melt all that frozen rosé.
  5. When ready to blend, add ice, frozen wine, and simple syrup to a blender. Use the crush ice setting until the rosé turns into that perfect slush consistency.

Notes

Simple syrup can be made ahead of time and the rosé can be frozen the night before to save time when happy hour comes calling.
