Plum, Prosciutto, and Mozzarella Pizza

September 17, 2019

The end of summer is perfect plum season. Thinly sliced plums paired with fatty and salty prosciutto make an amazing pizza topping team. Plum , prosciutto, and mozzarella pizza is an easy way to dress up pizza night.

This past weekend we ate pizza on Thursday night, Friday night, and Sunday night. It’s safe to assume we looove pizza in this house. It is also important to note, we did take a break from pizza for some vegetables and what not on Saturday. Balance, right?

September is the perfect time to eat all the plums before they are gone. Savor the last bites of summer. I saw Joy the Baker made a roasted plum crepe cake. It got me craving this old school gluten free plum tart from my early days of blogging. Maybe even wash the tart down with a little white wine plum sangria, eh?

Too much plum? No way!

Baked or roasted plums got me thinking that the sweetness would be perfect on top of a crispy pizza crust. Plum, prosciutto, and mozzarella pizza is like your favorite summertime charcuterie board, just on a pizza crust.

The crust gets a light drizzle of olive oil and a rub down with garlic. Keep it simple because the sweet plums and salty prosciutto bring so much flavor to this pizza already. All you need to finish it off is a teensy drizzle of balsamic syrup and fresh basil. This pizza is so pretty and will make people think that you worked hard, when really you just let the plums, prosciutto, and mozzarella do their thing.

I highly recommend using either a prepared pizza dough or my favorite rectangle pizza crust from the bread section of Trader Joe’s. If you’re feeling ambitious, my homemade yeast pizza dough is totally worth the effort.

When you have fancy toppings like these, you can see how we end up eating pizza for three days in a row!
